Eventually Timmy made preparations to propose to Jane Capur. Lydia knew that when that day came, she'd be heading home, and without a glimmer of hope of finding a suitable husband.

What she didn't know was that Leod McGregor had asked Timmy about having Lydia stay with him and help with his household chores. The upcoming harvest was going to keep him busy, and he couldn't divide his time between housework and farmwork.

Timmy agreed, but told Lydia she was always welcome to come back to his house if Leod was in any way unkind to her.

She had to laugh, Leod was the nicest man in the world, and after all he had done for their family, she was happy to help him.
